NMDS-SC made even easier for employers to keep up to date

Having listened to employers, Skills for Care is pleased to announce that we have improved a number of features making the NMDS-SC Online even easier to use.

Since the beginning of the NMDS-SC, Skills for Care have consulted with employers to make sure the online system is useful and has continuously encouraged employers to feedback their experiences of using the NMDS-SC.

Improved features making NMDS-SC easier to use

Worker pages
The worker pages are now even easier to update. Employers now have only three sections to update rather than the original five.

Organisation page
We have now separated the sections for starters, leavers and vacancies so it is easier to read and clear what information is needed.

View only access
Each establishment can now create three user accounts that have view only access, which means that staff can view the reports but not view or amend the actual workforce information.

Changes to the data set
Employers can now keep up to date with changes that have been requested, those that are in consultation as well as those changes that have been agreed. This new tab can be found on the left hand side of the page whether logged in or out of your account.

Additional questions about workers
Workers from overseas are a valuable asset to the adult social care workforce in England and employers tell us that they are quite significant in numbers. In order to demonstrate the size of this part of the workforce employers can now record information about their workers’ country of birth, year of arrival in the UK and nationality in their NMDS-SC online account.

The NMDS-SC aims to benefit both the adult social care as a whole and individual social care employers. The information gathered provides a clearer picture of the size, structure and skills of the sector, informing government policy and funding. Equally importantly, the NMDS-SC aims to benefit social care employers, by enabling care providing establishments to keep an up to date online account of their workforce, allowing managers to identify future skills and competencies needed to deliver new and improved services.

It is clear to see from the NMDS-SC Briefings, that the robust workforce data collected from social care employers is already being used by key stakeholders, such as the Department of Health.
By using the NMDS-SC data Skills for Care have estimated that up to 2.5 million social care workers will be needed by 2025, these forecasts also consider how the workforce may be structured. This forecasting recognises future social care demands and helps the Government and sector to plan to meet these future needs. Therefore the more up to date the information is the more accurate these important decisions will be.

A big thank you!
To date 27,000 care-providing establishments have registered with the NMDS-SC, providing data on over 440,000 individual workers. These employers are benefiting from the numerous personal reports useful when workforce information is up to date. Skills for Care would like to thank all of these employers who have registered so far.
